Hometown business, Bailey Brothers Music Company, a music instrument retailer from Birmingham and Montgomery, has been awarded Gibson Acoustic 5 Star Dealer of the Year for outperforming independent dealers in markets 5-10 times larger than Birmingham while providing the top notch service that Gibson’s elite 5 Star dealers are known for providing. Bailey Brothers Music has been in business since 1986, started with a small 5,000 square foot store in Montgomery, Alabama by brothers Paul and Clay Bailey. They have expanded now to 3 stores, 2 in Birmingham and 1 in Montgomery and an online division called Wholesale Music. Orville Gibson began building guitars in 1894. Gibson guitars are some of the most highly regarded instruments in the world. Bailey Brothers is honored to receive such a prestigious award.

Bailey Brothers Music Academy – A great way to get started.
As summer approaches, parents and students alike look for constructive ways to spend their time out of school. For those with an interest in music, Bailey Brothers offers our Music Academy, an In-Store learning facility offering both private lessons and classes.
Our lesson program is one of the most comprehensive in town. Lessons are $25 per half-hour, with the exception of Violin lessons, which are $30 per half-hour. We have many teachers, so time slots are available throughout the week. Lessons are booked in blocks of four so teachers have a consistent schedule through the month. There is an annual Registration fee of $20 for new students.
For BEGINNING guitar players, we offer a Guitar Class that gets a player started with all the basics; tuning, reading guitar tablature, basic chords, notes on the guitar, rhythm, and melody. The Class is broken up into 4 one-hour sessions that run through the 4 Saturdays of the month, and are available for both children and adults. The Class is $10 a session, $40 for the full 4-session program. The Class begins every month on the first Saturday at 11am.

Songwriters Contest Winners Perform at Bailey Brothers
The Songwriters Contest here at Bailey Brothers was a great success! Many entered, and while the judges complained it was tough picking winners from such a collectively talented group, on Monday night, 14 Finalists performed their original songs for a crowd of family, friends, and fellow music lovers. The Contest was the brain child of Rick Parent and Brad Davis, the force behind Tommy Shaw, Billy Bob Thorton and others. Tired of “cookie-cutter” songs that seem to sound the same constantly filling the airwaves, the two decided to put together a competition focusing on song WRITING, regardless of performance or instrumentation. After competing on a local level, winners go on to compete regionally and nationally, culminating in a reality show based around the contest.
Bailey Brothers hosted Monday’s showcase of songwriters that featured first prize winner India Ramey, second prize winner Benjamin Jones (of the band Good Morning Lucy), and third place winner Ryan Roddam. India and Ben can be seen around the Birmingham area performing their own original songs at local venues with their bands. Other finalists included Joey Arata, Cabot Barden, Johnny Anastasia, Chris Copeland, TJ Maddox, Tim Kelly (of the band Full Moon Blanket and the Acousticats), Deanna Medina, Stephanie Norris, Michael Hanson, Chris Gothard, and Casey Arrington. India and Bens’ performances will be posted on the songwriters website (www.thesongwriters.biz) where they will compete against other winners from around the country via an online popular vote. Ryan will compete with other 3rd place or “Wildcard” winners for a spot in a showcase set at Austin’s famous South by Southwest Music Festival. The three winners also took home capos, strings and guitar straps provided by the songwriters organization, and First place winner India Ramey took home a brand new Takamine GS330s Acoustic Guitar.
